Surrey For Party Rocking

Southampton’s best girlies crowded into the pool to face off against Surrey for the first time this season. The game started with high adrenaline and after only 30 seconds in the pool Katie Magill did what Katie Magill does best and sinks a goal in the back of the net, showcasing to all those involved that she is just the best. This was quickly followed by Rhia Perks, demonstrating that these Surrey girlies had no idea the kind of hot shot team they were up against. Clearly feeling a bit bad about the quick successive goals Antonia let in a sympathy goal as to not make them feel too bad that they had driven all this way just to get dominated. However, our generosity quickly ended with the best captain, Lottie Ratledge placing a beauty in the back of the net. The girls continued to dominate the first quarter scoring five in total. This set them up for a beautiful first half!

After a quick reminder to “not watch the ball” (this later backfired) the girls started the second quarter. It started with a foul from Surrey and a power ball goal from Iris Bugnar.

Despite Surrey’s quick swimmers, we were able to achieve six more goals in the second quarter in quick succession with some beautiful arc work by the girls, showing how well they’d progressed with training throughout the year. Of these, two surprising goals came from Megan Harvey, who has maybe come to training five times in whole year – clearly, she is just good enough as is! All these goals led to the first half ending with a massive 12-1and the team still feeling strong!

Before the third quarter kicked off, Coach Alex gave a quick reminder that “don’t ball watch” didn’t mean don’t ever look at the ball, because as it turns out, that’s quite helpful. The quarter began with enthusiasm running high. Clearly the score was getting to Surrey as they decided to concede one major and a penalty within the first couple of minutes of the third quarter. An apprehensive Rosie Ramshaw was instructed to take her first ever penalty but absolutely nailed it and scored her first goal of the club! The head coach for Surrey also felt the excitement for the goal (who can blame him) and decided to get a yellow card after a little heart to heart with the referee, which resulted in him heading straight home. This then led to Rhia and Katie again asserting their true skills as our league’s top goal scorers and placing two more goals in the back of the net. The third quarter ended with an impressive score of 17-1.

Whilst Surrey took a beating in terms of goals conceded, they started to take out their aggression for not being able to score, with some full-scale attacks, with some crafty kicks and questionable arm placements happening left right and centre. With one player conceding a penalty, Rhia scored another goal. Amazing job considering it was her first penalty for this team!. This is not to say that some our brightest players didn’t choose to go down the dirty route also, with a couple of our girls fighting back, obviously under the guise of being the impeccable markers that we are. For the last quarter the girls were putting goals in whenever they could with Megan achieving a cheeky hattrick and both Katie Magill and Rhia Perks both scoring four goals.

Of course, Magill needed to sneak one goal in the last two seconds of the match, demonstrating her sheer power. This ended the game with an outstanding victory of 26-1 giving us a needed goal difference in the league table and leaving us with spirits high for our decider match against Imperial on Sunday!

Man of the Match: Has to go to the one and only Meg Harvey for scoring 3 spectacular goals.

Dick of the day: Surrey Head Coach for having some misunderstandings of the rules and leaving our spectators giggling
