Drum Drum Drum Brum (23/10)

The girls set off into the afternoon sun for the long drive to Birmingham. They arrived in the cover of darkness ready to beat Birmingham but in reality it was bashing for us. We arrived in good spirits jumping in for a warm up watching the shots fly from both sides.

We swam off raring to go. Miss Lancaster managed to last six seconds before being excluded. Followed by Birmingham getting the ball. We went into the defensive positioning ready to stop them from scoring. Miss Rowland got big, saving the first attempt. Then they gained the rebound passing round and scoring in the top corner.

We tipped off making our way up the pool, setting up the arc. The ball came to Miss Ratledge, she made a beautiful shot landing in the goal, drawing us level. The clock ticked down, many good saves happened, stopping Birmingham at 1-1. But then Birmingham managed to sneak one goal past Miss Rowlands long arms brining us to 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Miss Ratledge gave us a pep talking tell us how proud she was and to continue. But we had our challenged in the form of a death whistle. Sounding like a woman screaming in pain they continuous sounded it throughout the match, causing splitting headaches and annoyance from us. If you wish to know what it sounded like, imagine how one would scream at a spider.

The second quarter started we swam quickly into defensive positions with Birmingham winning the swim off. Birmingham swung in a stunning backshot landing the score at 3-1. The saves kept coming but Birmingham found their groove bringing us to 8-1 with 50 seconds left. Miss Perks got the ball and scored our second goal! Bringing the score to 9-2 with 22 seconds left. We were cheering our victories but we were drowned out by the death whistle. At the restart Birmingham gave away a penalty. Miss Ratledge lined up ready to take it with 5 seconds left… She scored! The end of the second quarter it was 9-3.

The third quarter was underway and we won the swim off. Making its way up the pool it came to Miss Ratledge to lob it in for a beautiful goal. We were edging closer. Less than a minuet later Miss Perks got a glorious shot as well! Bringing the score to  9-5. Miss Rowland carried on saving their savage shots, despite their death whistle making us wish death. But some slipped through her fingers. Miss Bugner got excluded whilst trying to fight for the ball. But at the next restart we were off, swiftly Miss Ratledge got the ball popping it in for 13-6 score. In the last minuet Birmingham managed to slip on more in leaving us with a 14-6 at the end of the third quarter. The drums and whistle went crazy as we swam to the corner for a talk.

The whistle went for the fourth quarter (not the death one) with our weary muscles and ears struggling on. In annoyance Miss Lancaster accidently gave away a penalty. The goals crept up for Birmingham. We tipped off swimming the ball up, a swift pass to Miss Ratledge secured our 7th goal. With 3 minuets left the score was 19-7. The death whistle screaming in our ears it came to 40 seconds when Miss Ratledge manged to swoop in with our 8th goal!! But ten seconds later Birmingham bit back with a final goal. The final score being 22-8.

The girls left with ringing in their ears but high spirits from playing a brilliant game.
