After getting to the grand Whitgift school, Kings decided we were now Southampton City team instead! Do not be fooled, not to spoil anything but we didn’t quite play like the Sirens!
The girls hopped in, all smiles, for a warmup. Next came the exhilarating team talk from Miss Ratledge, consisting of team tactics and the possibility that we may or may not win – we did not. We were then told by the ref that no yapping was allowed in any circumstance so those on bench were unfortunately silenced – though Miss Evans snuck a few cheers and yells out.
A feisty swim off led to Kings snatching the ball right from our hands, hurling it straight into the net within the first 30 seconds. Then came another 3 goals within the next 2 minutes. HOWEVER, Miss Skelton decided we weren’t being nice enough and offered them a penalty, alas they unfortunately missed, and in return they got their first exclusion! Once again, nothing came of it and the game continued, leading to another 3 goals heading straight past us and into our goal.
We were doing so well already that the ref returned to begin teaching Mr Thomas and giving him some helpful tips on how to coach us as if we weren’t playing perfectly.
The second quarter began well with-it taking Kings to take a minute and twenty to score their 8th goal, they were held back by our dazzling defence, especially as Mr Thomas yelled numerous times for us to use our “ARMS”. However, muscle mommy Miss Bugnar got too excited and managed to get herself an exclusion, but all is well because they didn’t manage to get their 10th goal in that moment, instead it came 10 seconds later. Miss Skelton decided at that moment that a penalty wasn’t enough and decided to get excluded twice in the span of 2 minutes! Everyone decided to take a lovely break then as half time came.
Third quarter started up in full swing with Miss Neighbour grabbing the ball ferociously. Miss Lancaster also earned herself 2 exclusions, silly centre back. This was our best quarter so far with only 4 goals shot by Kings – quite pathetic from them.
Finally in the last quarter, Kings decided to shoot their final 5 goals, bringing the score to 23-0. But we decided to do our big reveal when the timer was at 00:01, with Miss Ratledge launching the ball straight past their futile goalkeeper and scoring us our final goal. THE CHEERS, Kings were cheering, the flamingos were cheering and all of Southampton cheered. Miss Ratledge could be taking Mr Bellingham’s job very soon. We were all so pleased with our work that day that even the ref came to congratulate us and tell us how diabolical our passes and fouls were. Well done Girls!! All jokes aside, everyone played so well!!
The day ended with our saying hi to the flamingos and going straight home – no toilet issues this time.
