The SUWPC ladies arrived at the pool ready for their second cup match, after their win over Surrey would they beat Exeter this time? The nerves were high but after a quick warm up, they needed to be settled as the match begun.

Quarter 1 began with the Exeter ladies winning possession. After an evenly matched 2 minutes, captain Katie scored putting us in the lead. An Exeter major lead to a penalty, taken by Katie, which bounced off the top bar but thanks to Abbie’s quick swimming gave Katie another chance, scoring again. A great save from Antonia led to Exeter scoring off a corner, and then quickly scoring again. The quarter ended with another goal for Exeter and a score of 2-3.

Quarter 2 started with a great swim from Abbie and was very evenly matched, with Natalia scoring a goal and Exeter scoring one too. Rhia and Abbie subbed out and Georgia and Claude jumped in eager to play, but before they could even swim a length, the 10 seconds were up and quarter 2 ended with a score of 3-4.

The third quarter started with two goals for Exeter before captain Katie scored. A man up led to our corner which was taken by Charlotte R, but as the ref signalled for her to move in, an Exeter player re-joined the game thinking the ref was waving at her. Play was stopped, giving everyone a well-deserved rest and time for a quick chat before the game was started again. Katie took the awarded Southampton penalty scoring again, but Exeter quickly scored in retaliation and then again in a Southampton man down. The eventful quarter ends 5-8.

A great swim from Rhia and a goal from Natalia started the quarter strongly. A goal for Exeter followed by goals from both Katie and Rhia meant it was all still to play for. With the tension high, Exeter scored again but Abbie quickly scored from a man up. With only 1 minute 30 left, Exeter scored, and with a couple of saves from both goalies, the time was running out. After a final goal from Natalia, the match was over. The final score: 10-11.

Despite the L, an encouraging team talk by Katie left everyone in good spirits and ready for a well-deserved trip to Stags. Well done ladies!
