Soton Biggest Boys vs Channel Islands (16/03)

One sunny March day a slighted depleted selection of Southampton’s biggest boys made the short trip to Basingstoke for a game against the league leading combined channel island team.

A fast start from the islanders led to a speedy 4-0 lead being taken. The uni boys however, were not inclined to roll over and accept defeat. And the next 5 minutes were played at breakneck pace with 2 goals each finding the net before first drinks were taken. The second quarter started similarly …..ummm….. slowly with some quick goals being conceded before the boys grew into the quarter and grabbing a goal back just before half time. The half ended 10-3 and the come back was on.

With the help of a spare islander and some lovely goals from our resident sharpshooter Mr Wilmshurt we went into the final quarter having narrowed the deficit to 13-9. Can we do it? No.

Another valiant effort from the boys winning the final quarter 6-3 with Jack and popple on target, before Alex found himself in the ref’s bad books with a wrapping. It wasn’t quite enough to get over the line and the official score went down as 10-3 (before we received reinforcements) but a superb comeback made the final the ‘final score’ 15-16 to Channel Islands.

MOTM: Popple for a rare appearance and securing his annual goal.

DotD: Wilmshurt for his wrapping.
