Tragedy, heartbreak and devastation (11/12)

On the 4th of December, Southampton’s biggest headed to Jubilee for our last game of the BUCS season vs UCL, in attempt to extend our 5-game win streak (record?) and put ourselves within reach of winning the league.

As you can see from the title, this battle went sub-optimally.

Without any desire to mince words, the game started well, with quarter one ending 2-1 to us thanks to two lovely goals from Mr Graham, quarter two ending 5-4, with goals from Scott, Graham and our glorious leader, Mr Teng. The third quarter was triumphant, ending 9-6, with our lead being extended by Misters Ammon and Wilmshurst and freshers Nelson and Alvarez.

The fourth quarter was a scene of tragedy rarely seen outside the walls of the Globe theatre.

The final quarter of this crucial match ended 9-10 to the visitors.

We have a lot to be proud of. We played well, fought to the final buzzer but it was just not to be.

The scenes following the final buzzer was painful, emotion overcame many of the boys, the dreams of what could have been and what so nearly were disappearing in what can only be described as a strong effort from the visitors.

It’s been a great season, with many wins but more importantly a close-knit team that proved itself to be rather good at water polo, just not quite as good at actually winning.

Onto the Cup.

Man-of-the-Match: Howard Teng

Mr Teng has led us brilliantly throughout the highs and lows of this season, with plenty of both. He has built a very close-knit team that I was proud to play in, and I know I’m not alone in that, and this match has epitomised this more than any other.

Dick-of-the-Day: UCL’s cameraman

Bloke was following the refs around, broke all the rules for the assistant coaches and wasn’t allowed to film most of what he did. A tad interesting.
