Thirty and Flirty

On a drizzly Wednesday evening, a mere two weeks into uni, our ladies rocked up to our home pool for their first BUCS match of the season – ready and raring to go. It’s safe to say, that given their early first exclusion, Bristol’s second-hand team were not in the same mood. With our first goal from our speediest swimmer Miss West, our lovely ladies began their reign of terror (and goals). With Parkin, Colson and Neighbour all scoring at least twice, our ladies team finished the quarter with a stunning 8-0 lead. Winning on goals clearly wasn’t enough, we were winning with 3-2 majors too 🤭.

During the second quarter it may have been noted that despite our further 4 goals, Miss Pimenta felt the strong urge that a lovely dunking was in order – earning her the honour of her cap on the match sheet. The opposition then scored their first two goals, but it did nothing to slow Soton’s gorgeous girls with two more goals from our fabulous former captain Miss Fairhurst. And proof that training does pay off, with an absolutely stunning back shot from Read. Therefore, this second quater ended with an even 3-3 score on exclusions but more importantly, with a 15-2 lead at the end of the first half!

With an inspiring talk from our captain, Soton’s gorgeous girls prepared themselves for a second half with their guards up high. Unnecessary however, due to our captain’s affinity for the back of the net securing us a goal within 20 seconds of play. Other players decided to switch tactics, because despite her two goals first quarter, Miss Colson must have gained a taste for exclusions after the first being in the second quarter. Unfortunately, this lead to a further two majors, resulting in her following in the footsteps of our former Pit D and getting wrapped before third quaters end. Despite the negativity in the pit area, Soton enjoyed a further 9 goals with special mention to Miss Culpan, Miss Kennedy, Miss Cuming and Miss Birnie all scoring their first goals of the match with several of them going back for seconds 😋. Finishing the quarter with a iron fist of a win and a 24-2 lead.

Given our relatively secure lead, the tired ladies let their guard down a little (Kennedy being Pit D had absolutely nothing to do with it) in the first few minutes of the final quarter, allowing the opposition to score three whole goals (WHAAAT). But not to worry, I’m sure our five goals in that quarter kept their hopes and dreams at bay 😉

Sotons gayest (as in happy) girlies, slept with smiles on their faces, knowing that they smashed their first BUCS game of the season with an impeccable 30-5 WIN.

Player of the Match: Given the excellent skillsets displayed in this match it is a joint win between Miss Owens for her uncountable but many, incredible saves, and our dearest Mage Neighbour for their goals, steals and strength of defense.

Dick of the Day: Miss Colson for the reckless abondonment of her teammates
