Men’s 2nds vs Cardiff – 24/11/2013

The second’s first UPolo match of the season was against Cardiff, our 3rd game
of the season. We fielded a strong team, which is beginning to bond and work
together.

Cardiff brought some strong swimmers and seemed keen for a bit of over-friendly
contact in the pit, which Olly Cripps obliged to with enthusiasm.

During the first quarter Southampton defended the shallow end and held a strong
defence, with new keeper Lawrence Thompson allowing in just one goal from
Cardiff. We made opportunities on the breaks but suffered from a lack of
finishing.

Second quarter, Mitch made a strong contribution with our only 2 goals of the
match, with Cardiff matching us.

The 3rd and 4th quarters showed a slight lack of fitness from the seconds, and
this was used by Cardiff to finish off the match, however we maintained a tight
press at all times, which made it a really hard game for them. It was by no
means a walk over, against a good quality team, so we take the positives and
move on to our next game. Final score: Southampton 2 – Cardiff 8.
